Samgye-tang
|
Samgye-tang (Ginseng Chicken Soup) is the most popular invigorating food and is consumed year-round. It is made by boiling a young chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, ginseng, jujube, and other ingredients. Its nutritional and caloric value help replenish a weakened body.
Samgye-tang is well known to help with maintaining a healthy body temperature and as a result is eaten in the winter to stay warm and in the summer to feel refreshed. |
Kimchi

Kimchi is the most famous traditional food and icon that well-represents Korea itself, as it accompanies almost every meal served in the country.
Depending on the main ingredient used, the name of the dish also differs where cabbage, radish, cucumber and/or other vegetables often play the role. Thanks to the fermentation process, kimchi is packed with tons of vitamins and minerals and it not only contains lactic acid bacteria, a bacterium that helps with digestion and combats against harmful bacteria, but also helps prevent the growth of cancer. |
Street Food

1. Hotteok - It is a Korean-style pancake made by filling wheat or glutinous rice flour dough with brown sugar/peanuts/cinnamon and frying it in oil.
2. Tteok-bokki - The main ingredient of tteok-bokki is garae-tteok (rice cake formed into a long white cylinder shape), which is mixed with eomuk (fish cake) and various vegetables like onions, cabbage, and carrots, and red pepper paste. 3. Kkochi eomuk (skewered fish cake) - Eomuk is prepared on skewers then boiled in a broth flavored with radishes and kelp. 4. Bungeoppang -It is made by pouring flour dough into the bungeo (carp)-shaped black cast iron mold and filling it with red bean paste. |
Bingsu

Bingsu (shaved ice with toppings) is a popular snack food found almost everywhere in Korea. It is a dessert made of ice chips, fruit, rice cake, sweetened milk, and fruit syrup. Rather than just the original pat-bingsu (bingsu with red beans), a wide array of bingsu like sweet red bean bingsu, fruit bingsu, mango bingsu, green tea bingsu, and coffee bingsu has become more popular these days.
