Seoul + DMZ / War Memorial of Korea
DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is a buffer zone, which was established when the Armistice Agreement was signed during the Korean War (1950~1953).
The lines reach 248㎞ in length. On either side of the truce line is a 2㎞-wide stretch of land where military activity is forbidden. The zone has been protected from human disturbance for about 65 years. |
Imjingak
Imjingak, located about 7㎞ from the Military Demarcation Line, was built in 1972 to console those who are unable to return to their hometowns and families because of the division of Korea. It is now one of the more famous DMZ tourist spots for foreigners because it is possible to visit without going through any security check points.
Imjingak area aims to stress the importance of peace through the DMZ peace gondola, the Bridge of Freedom, a relic of the war, the remains of a steam locomotive at Changdan Station, and more for a comprehensive tourist attraction focused on reunification and national security.

Panmunjeom
Panmunjeom is located in the DMZ. The conference center in Panmunjeom is surrounded by the Joint Security Area (JSA). It is the only portion of the DMZ where North and South Korean forces stand face-to-face. It was the site of military negotiations between North Korea and the United Nations Command (UNC).
Visitors can tour Panmunjeom only by group tour arranged by official authorities or designated travel agencies.
Unfortunately wheelchair/crutch users are not permitted to visit for contingency plans (military collision and emergency evacuation).

The War Memorial of Korea
The War Memorial of Korea, located in Seoul, exhibits and preserve materials related to the Korean War and serves as a national moral educational venue. It was established to commemorate the noble sacrifice of patriotic martyrs by the War Memorial Service Korea Society on June 10, 1994. The museum houses approximately 33,000 artifacts with about 10,000 on display at an indoor and outside exhibition halls. There are six separate indoor halls, including Expeditionary Forces Room, Patriotic Memorial Room, War History Room, 6·25 Korean War Room, Development Hall and Large Machinery Room. The outdoor exhibition hall showcases large-sized weapons.
