Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, dubbed as Jeju’s landmark, was formed from volcanic activity that erupted about 5,000 years ago from the ocean bottom. Located on the eastern end of Jeju Island, there is a huge crater at the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. The crater is about 600m in diameter and 90m high. With the 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater, it looks like a gigantic crown.
Seopjikoji is located at the end of the eastern shore of Jeju Island. "Seopji" is the old name for the area, and "Koji" is Jeju dialect meaning a sudden bump on land. Many travelers coming to Jeju Island agree visiting Seopjikoji as their top priority.
Bijarim Forest is a group of about 2,800 nutmeg trees between 500 and 800 years old. This is the largest nutmeg tree forest in the world. In the middle of the forest is an 800-year-old tree, called ‘Ancestor tree of the Bija trees’. The tree is the oldest tree on Jeju-do with a height of 25 meters and girth of 6 meters.
In the local dialect, ‘Olle’ originally referred to the narrow path between the street and one’s doorstep. Jeju Olle, a series of trails that stretch around the entire coast of the island, is one of the many attractions and activities that Jeju has to offer.
The trails pass through various landscapes along the way including small villages, beaches, farms and forests. Each route offers a unique opportunity to soak in the beauty of Jeju and the island’s culture.
